Since the beginning of this year, the overall environment of China’s industrial robot industry has been relatively “cold”. Although the total production in the first half of the year reached 280000 sets, which is a certain increase compared to the same period last year, the overall demand for industrial robots in the industry has not shown significant improvement.

Compared to the same period last year, the sales of industrial robots in China only saw a slight increase in the first quarter of this year. According to the research conducted by GGII, the sales volume of industrial robots in the Chinese market in Q1 2024 is about 76100 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.47%.

In an unfavorable market environment, Astro Robotics, a robotics company that originated from Tianjin University in 2013, delivered an outstanding performance in the first half of 2024, breaking new records in revenue and shipments.

Starting with parallel robots, Astro Robotics has now developed a series of product matrices, providing a full range of intelligent manufacturing products and system solutions such as high-speed parallel robots, high-speed SCARA robots, integrated drive and control machines, collaborative palletizing workstations, vision systems, and spare parts.

According to research conducted by Gaogong Robotics, from January to June 2024, the revenue of Astro Boy robots increased by over 40% compared to the same period last year. Behind this is the impressive performance of Astro Boy’s full matrix products, achieving one breakthrough after another.

Parallel robots: nearly a thousand units shipped

In 2012, the patent for Delta robots purchased by ABB was lifted, and a group of domestic enterprises that developed and produced Delta robots immediately emerged. It was also in this year that Liu Songtao, who was still a graduate student at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tianjin University, had the idea of starting a business with parallel robots.

In 2013, Liu Songtao co founded Chenxing (Tianjin) Automation Equipment Co., Ltd. with his former classmate and friend Song Tao at Beihang University, and subsequently established the brand Astrorobot in 2015.

Today, with Professor Huang Tian from Tianjin University and Professor Wang Tianmiao from Beihang University as the chief scientists, Astro Boy Robotics has successively developed and launched more than 60 parallel robots in the D2/DD2/D3/D5/S6 series, covering 2-5 axes, 300-3000mm working range, and 0-60kg load.

The parallel robot structure design of Astro Boy robot is simple, with stable and reliable assembly and connection, exhibiting advantages such as high speed, high precision, high durability, and high stability. A single parallel robot can usually save 3-5 manual labor and replace 2-4 traditional sorting equipment. The body is maintenance free throughout the year, and no additional lubrication or maintenance is required for each joint. The pre tensioned structure has no gaps.

Under the international standard test trajectory (25-305-25), the maximum beat can be stabilized at 600 beats per minute. Even under high-speed operation of over 300 times per minute, the repetitive positioning accuracy of its parallel robot can still reach ± 0.02mm, making it more suitable for high-precision sorting, assembly, and other operations at high speeds.

From January to June 2024, Astro Boy’s parallel robot business reached new heights, with nearly a thousand units shipped and revenue increasing by 40% year-on-year.
